HOW TO KEEP CURLY HAIR WIGS CURLY?

Curly hair is always in fashion and will never go out of style. However, curly wigs can be especially difficult to take care of because the curl must be maintained in order for the wig to keep most of its original shape. Learning to take care of your curly wig can save you a lot of money.

Wash your curly wig less often

Wigs don't need to be washed as often as your own hair; however, after a few weeks, dirt and oil can build up and cause your wig to lose its shine. Your wig may also become stiff and difficult to style. Curly wigs should be washed before this happens. Be sure to check the washing instructions for your particular wig. The general rule for all wigs is that they should be washed very gently in a shallow basin filled with warm water and wig shampoo. Simply swirl the wig in the water, do not rub it. Take it out and put it on a towel to try it out. You can pat the excess water from the wig, but do not rub the wig, which may cause it to lose its curl.

Use a proper comb

If your wig is wavy, you can use a wide tooth comb and start at the top of the wig and slowly work your way up, very gently combing out any tangles. Generally speaking, wigs that are tightly curled should not be combed through because this will break the curls apart. Once the curls are separated, it is not possible to redesign them as before. Some wigs can be flicked out with your fingers. (Caution. Wet, wavy wig styles are not meant to be brushed or combed. Instead, simply spray water or a mild conditioner on the wig for maintenance).

If necessary, cut off the ends of curly wigs.

Long curly wigs in particular have a tendency to become frizzy and tangled. Cutting off the ends of the wig by a few centimeters can help, but of course, you can only do this many times without drastically changing the style of the wig. For short curly African wigs, you can ignore this step as they do not need to be cut, they just need a proper comb.

Combing with conditioner

Curly wigs are basically meant to replicate natural hair, they are bound to dry out faster and there will be a lot of hair loss. Be sure to use water and conditioner to help smooth out your wig during the combing process. Just like natural hair, curly wigs can break and lose their curl, and conditioner can help soften the curl and ease the shedding process.

Use liquid oils

When moisturizing curly wigs, using a solid oil hair product does not penetrate the curls easily. It will either apply unevenly or you will ruin the curls as you try to force your hands through them. Just like natural hair, your wig needs to be moisturized to help it stay hydrated and smooth. This will prevent it from unwanted breakage and keep the curls looking new and bouncy. You can also use a spray bottle to help you penetrate your curls.

Use heat.

Always start with the lowest temperature and gradually increase the temperature if needed. Re-rolling a long curly human hair wig with a curling iron can help restore its original quality.
